After learning of Michael's death on December 25, 2016, Ridgeley paid his respects on Twitter, saying, "So saddened by the loss of my loving friend Yog."
After years of playing in various bands, most notably The Executive, Michael and Ridgeley formed the group Wham! They approached various labels with homemade tapes (10 minute recording in Ridgeley's living room) and signed with Innervision Records. After one album, the duo signed with CBS.

In 2005, Ridgeley and Michael planned to reunite with the Wham! for Live 8, but Ridgeley pulled out at the last minute; In 2012, Michael dismissed rumors that they would reunite to commemorate the 30th anniversary of his debut album. Michael said that the speculation that the band would reunite once more was not true.
On January 27, 1991, Ridgeley sang several songs with Michael at the encore of the Rio Rock event at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
Ridgeley has avoided the limelight since 1991, but for the first time since their breakup in the 2005 documentary "A Different Story," she agreed to do an on-camera interview about the life of George Michael. Shortly after the split, Ridgeley moved to Monaco and tried his hand at Formula Three. With little success, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. He returned to the UK permanently in 1990.
CBS Records (later Sony Music) chose Wham! to designate a solo album by Michael and Ridgeley, and released a solo recording of guitar and drums by Albert's son Ridgeley in 1990. His brother Paul, an occasional percussionist for Bananarama, played drums on the album. Singles include "Shake" and "Red Dress."
"Shake", the lead single from his solo album, reached number 16 on the Australian chart and number 58 on the UK Singles Chart. "Shake" was the 81st best-selling single of 1990 in Australia. "The Red Dress" was a hit in Australia, but peaked outside the top 100.
After the poor sales of Sons of Albert, CBS dropped the option to release a second album, which was panned by critics and failed to enter the top 75 of the UK Albums Chart. Son of Albert was one of the worst-received albums of 1990, earning only a half star in Rolling Stone's brutal review. Ridgeley later said, "It's disappointing and frustrating that the album was such a huge success."
